Anne Imhof developed for the German pavilion at the 57th International Art Exhibition La Biennale di Venezia a spatially as well as temporally expansive work conceived especially for the pavilion. Her oeuvre bridges the divides between painting, sculpture, and installation as well as performance.

Anne Imhof confronts the brutality of our time with a hard realism. Her scenarios visualize the constitution of the body in the demarcation of material and discursive, of technological, socioeconomic, and pharmaceutical boundaries. Imhof thus reveals the space between body and reality, the space where our personality comes into being.

Her contribution won the Golden Lion for the best national pavilion.

Anne Imhof (*1978) graduated in 2012 at the Städelschule in Frankfurt on the Main. In 2015 Imhof was awarded the Preis der Nationalgalerie. Following this she produced 'Angst' (fear), an opera in three acts which was presented at the Kunsthalle Basel, the Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin and on the Biennale de Montréal in 2016.
Her performances Deal (2015), Rage (2014), Aqua Leo (2013) and School of the Seven Bells (2012) were on view amoungst others in single exhibitions at the MoMA PS1, New York (2015), the Carré d’Art – Musée d’art contemporain de Nîmes (2014), at the New Jerseyy, Basel and the Portikus, Frankfurt on the Main (2013).
In international group exhibitions her works were presented at the Palais de Tokyo and the Centre Pompidou, Paris (2015), and at the Museum für Moderne Kunst in Frankfurt on the Main (2014).
In 2015 Anne Imhof was a guest lecturer at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Munich. In 2013 she was awarded a studio scholarship in Paris by the Hessische Kulturstiftung.
